D.C.'s First All Girls Youth Basketball League Launches to Empower & Unite Local Hoops Community WNBA Star Marissa Coleman Honored by League’s Players during Weekend Tournament
WHO: Marissa Coleman; professional basketball player (WNBA’s Indiana Fever and Fenerbahçe Istanbul’s Turkish team), recent inductee of the St. John’s College High School Hall of Fame and former Maryland Terrapin (ACC Rookie of the Year 2006).
Lonnie Harrell; League of Girls Hoops creator, retired professional basketball player, D.C. native and youth sports advocate.
WHAT: 3-game League of Girls Hoops tournament, in honor of female basketball pro, Marissa Coleman.
DETAILS: League of Girls Hoops is the first basketball league for girl players in the D.C. metropolitan area. Created to showcase the power of competitive girls basketball and provide participants with life long lessons that will aid in their personal and athletic development, the league is made up of 5 teams, with more than 40 players ranging from 9 – 14 years old. League of Girls is committed to uniting the female basketball community and providing a place for coaches and scouts to assess local talent.
Professional player Marissa Coleman will join this weekend’s tournament events before she heads to play overseas, in an effort to support the new school of youth girl players.
